Discharge Printing Bandanas

Since bandanas are worn typically on the face, head or neck, it’s important that they be printed with a safe and soft ink. Typical screen printing inks are partially made from plastics which are not environmentally safe nor comfortable to wear directly on the skin. In addition, a thick coat of plastic based inks can block the pores of the fabric and if the bandana is being worn as a face mask, can impede air flow. Discharge Printing Bandanas is the proper method and offers a smooth, breathable design. 

Unlike standard and plastic based solvent inks, discharge inks use a water base and pigments to do their job. Standard plastic based inks sit on top of fabric and are scratchy and heavy. Discharge printing involves and infused dye, making the print much lighter and smoother to the touch. Instead of sitting on top of the fabric, a discharge printed bandana will penetrate the fibers while leaving them breathable.

To use an analogy, consider Discharge Printing Bandanas to be similar to precise tie-dye. But instead of unpredictable tie-dye results, we can offer precise color matching and design work.

Our custom all over print bandanas are printed with environmentally friendly water-based inks called “discharge inks”. Instead of printing a heavy plastic based ink on the surface of the bandana fabric, instead we use a “bleaching” method where we remove the original color and replace it with the color of your design. The benefit of it is that you hardly feel the print on the bandana. When it’s a product that you use to wear on your face or head, not feeling the design is critical.
