Full Color Custom Bandanas
One of the biggest challenges when searching for full color custom bandanas is to determine what the actual definition of full color is. Let me explain further. The term “Full Color” can mean a few different things. Here are the top 3 definitions of Full Color
Top 3 Definitions Of Full Color
#1 Dye Sublimation Images
The most popular option that customers think of when they say “Full Color Custom Bandanas” is dye sublimation. Dye Sub is used when a customer wants a true photograph or something as close to a digital screen image as possible. Dye sublimation is a process that allows unlimited colors and very fine details. Any time you’ve seen a photograph on paper, there is a high likelyhood that it was done using Dye Sublimation.
The issues with Dye Sublimation are that the fabric has to start white, and has to be polyester. If you’ve ever seen a photograph on fabric, look at the back side. The back of the fabric is usually white. If a customer wants a t-shirt to be dye sublimated, they won’t care too much about the inside being white. Nobody will see the inside of the shirt. However, when the back of a bandana is white, that is often an issue.
#2 Screen Printing Spot and 4 Color Process
Screen printing can produce near photographic results, but the definition is far less than that of dye sublimation. However, bandanas manufactured using screen printing can be cotton and are a solid color throughout. This means that bandanas have the same color on the front and back vs. having a white back. Also, cotton is more desirable than polyester for bandanas. Screen printing can produce simulated full color using 4-color process. You can also use spot colors to create as many as 8 to 10 colors on a bandana.
#3 Solid Color Bandanas
Some customers define full color bandanas by the fabric alone. This definition ignores the print. This is a new definition because of the growing popularity of dye sublimation. Let me explain this one further … Dye sublimation printers are inexpensive. Dye sublimation products are often lower quality than what you may be accustom to with cotton. Once lower end providers started advertising dye sublimation bandanas, they often forgot to mention to the customers that the back of the bandana would be white. (See #1 above).
Most people in the United States, and the world, assume a bandana looks like a classic bandana. Unfortunately dye sublimation bandanas don’t look or feel like that. Having a white back when the front looks like a traditional bandana, can be offputting.
