Order Custom Bandanas
When it’s time to Order Custom Bandanas here are the top 5 things to consider.
Top 5 Things To Consider When Ordering Custom Bandanas
#1. Are They Soft?
One of the primary uses of a custom printed bandana is for it to be worn on the head or around the neck. Since these bandanas are in direct contact with the persons body, it’s imperative that they are comfortable. Many bandanas that are imported are made from 100% polyester or a 50/50 blend which tends to make them more stiff. Even some 100% cotton bandanas are stiff. What matters for softness is thread count and cotton quality. The bandanas that we manufacture are 100% cotton and made in the USA. they are 68/60 and are very soft.
One important note for all new customers. In order to ensure a high quality print, we starch and iron the bandanas at the factory before we print them. This process makes them wrinkle free and ensures a high quality custom print on each bandana. One of the temporary impacts of doing this is that the bandana will be slightly more stiff when you get it. But after one wash, it will return to it’s natural soft state. Think of it like a starched shirt and then a starched shirt once it gets of of the wash.
#2. Are They Square?
Ummm…. Yeah. I know it sounds like a strange question for this list. However, it’s an important one to ask. By definition, a bandana is a square, unfortunately, many imports that are manufactured quickly and cheaply are imperfect. Instead of being squares, they may be rectangles or parallelograms. This is important for a few reasons. The primary reason is that bandanas are supposed to be square, nuff said on that. But even more importantly, if they are not square and a perfectly square design is printed on them, the print that is perfect allows the eye to see the imperfections in the bandana making the bandana look bad. Our bandanas are carefully cut and sewn to be as close to square as possible.
#3. Is The Print Big Enough?
The traditional and classic bandana look that people are use to is a 20″ x 20″ print on a 22″ x 22″ banana which leaves a nice 1″ blank border. Bandanas are screen printed, which means that any screen printing company can print a design on a blank bandana. However, not every screen printing company can print that large. Most screen printers max out at 16″ and if you are lucky 18″. This makes sense since their equipment was designed to print T-Shirts which are about that wide. Unfortunately, this leaves the bandana looking bad. With a huge blank border, it looks odd. We are a bandana manufacturing company. Our equipment has been custom made to print bandanas, and that’s why when you buy bandanas from us, you get the classic bandana look.
#4. Can You Feel The Ink?
As I mentioned in the answer to question #1, bandanas are made to be worn on the body, as a result, softness is critical. You don’t want to have your epic design scratching your forehead or neck. Also as noted in my answer to question #3, most screen printers that print bandanas use an ink called Plastisol, which is a cross between plastic and rubber. It’s a thick ink and sits on top of the fabric, and you can definitely feel it. As bandanas manufacturers, we use a water based ink and process called discharge printing. Our inks are closer to dyes and they soak into the fibers of the fabric making each bandana design virtually undetectable.
#5. Is The Print On Both Sides?
Even thought this is question #5, it’s one of the most common questions that we get asked. The answer is Yes and No. We only print the design on one side of the bandana, but because of the 68/60 weave and the light fabric, combined with the water based dyes, the print will soak through to the back. This aspect of the decoration is not a controllable element. We do not have the ability to stop it from soaking through nor do we have the ability to enhance the soak through consistently. This is something that just occurs in the manufacturing process. To learn more about this and to see photos, please click here.
