Ways To Personalize Your Bandanas
There are a 3 primary ways to personalize your custom bandanas. Here are the most popular ways to do it:
Screen Printing On Bandanas
Screen printing is a printing technique that uses a mesh-mounted stencil to support the ink as it is transferred to the garment. The design is created by burning a positive image onto a transparency film. This film is then placed on top of the cloth and ink is forced through the tiny openings in the screen with a squeegee.
This is how we do it here at BandanasOnline! Using water-based discharge pigments, we offer the softest feeling print and the most economical print method out there. Plus, the bandana color is solid thru-and-thru, no white backs on screen printed bandanas (See Dye Sublimation Issues Below)
Dye Sublimation On Bandanas
Dye sublimation printing is an indirect digital printing process that uses heat to transfer dye onto materials such as polyester or cotton fabrics. The process begins with a digital file being printed onto special paper. Once this paper is heated, the dye turns into a gas and transfers from the paper to the fabric.
Using Dye Sublimation for bandana decoration looks amazing, but the 2 drawbacks are: 1) Your bandanas must be 100% polyester, or Dye Sublimation won’t work. And 2.) Your bandanas must always start out 100% white. This means that when using Dye Sublimation for bandana printing, the backs of the bandana are always going to be white.
Digital Printing On Bandanas
Direct to garment (DTG) printing is a type of digital printing technology which allows for prints directly on textiles and garments using specialized inks. Many screen printers use this to print on bandanas. These also look great, and DTG offers the most in the way of color options. However, most DTG printers are limited to 16″ or 18″ prints, which means a lackluster print area on a bandana.
Bandana Design Tips
A classic bandana is a 22″ x 22″, 100% cotton bandana. What most people expect to see on a 22″ bandana is 20″ x 20″ print. A 20″ square print, leaves that expected 1″ blank border. This is a REALLY IMPORTANT thing to consider when designing your bandana. Let me explain …
Most companies that offer custom bandanas are either Merch Companies who outsource to screen printers, or they are screen printers. Since screen printers primary business is printing t-shirts, they just don’t have the need to print wider than 16″. As a result, if you order custom bandanas from a merch company or a screen printer, you’re likely to get a 16″ x 16″ print, that’s going to give you a 5″ blank border.
Your design is going to look like a postage stamp on a pool cover. Here at BandanasOnline, we are a bandana manufacturer, that decorates using custom fitted screen printing equipment. This is why we can easily print a 20″ x 20″ print, giving you that classic 1″ border.
If you are ordering over 300 bandanas, we also offer full bleed bandana printing. Full bleed printing is when your pattern goes off of the edge of the bandana, giving your custom bandana order that “custom fabric” look!
How To Place Your Custom Bandana Order
There are a few things you’ll need to know before you place your order for personalized bandanas in bulk. The most important thing is the size of bandana you need. We offer 14″ (Hankies), 22″ (Bandanas) and 27″ (Jumbo Bandanas)!
The next thing is to determine what color bandana you would like. You can order from up to 26 different colors and counting!
After you have chosen the size of bandana and the color of bandana, it’s time to give us your artwork. We work with vector art. Vector formats typically end with (.eps, .svg, .ai or .pdf) extensions. Although sometimes designers accidentally send us a raster in a vector format. I know it’s confusing, but we can help. The best thing to do is to just send us what you have, and we’ll talk you through it.
If you don’t have any art ready, no problem, we can do that too! You can start with one of our many FREE Bandana Templates, or you can call us (908) 806-8337 and work with one of our artists. We’ll ask you a few questions and then get to work designing for you!
