Top 3 Tips When Designing A Bandana
So you want some tips on designing a bandana? Awesome! It’s fun and easy to do, and we can help!
Putting together your own custom bandana, doesn’t have to be intimidating, quite the opposite, it’s very easy! Let’s review the top 3 tips to consider when designing a custom bandana.
#1. Design Your Bandana Artwork
When designing for custom bandana prints, the template is very straight forward … it’s a square! Most classic bandanas, feature a 1″ blank border around the perimeter. This means that the bandana artwork begins as a 20″ x 20″ square, and when printed on a 22″ x 22″ bandana, you end up with a 1″ blank border around the edge. #2. Select The Right Bandana
There is a wide range of bandana options available, and selecting the right bandana makes a big difference. The biggest thing to look out for when selecting the bandana is the fabric type and the squareness of the bandana itself. While it may seem simple to manufacture a bandana, there are a lot of non-square bandanas out there. Some manufacturers opt for lower cost fabrics as well. Nobody wants a scratchy, unsquare bandana! If you are considering working with us to produce your bandanas, you may want to consider ordering a sample bandana to test the quality first hand.
#3. Choose The Best Bandana Printing Partner
After you have completed your design work, and you’ve chosen the right bandana for your project, you’ll want to complete the process by choosing a bandana print provider. Most of the bandana providers in the United States are importing bandanas from China or India and then printing them using their t-shirt printing equipment. There are two levels of concern with this scenerio. See #2 above for the first concern. The second concern is the inks used and equipment used for printing imported bandanas.
Screen printing companies have equipment designed to print t-shirts. Even 2XL t-shirts aren’t 22″ wide. This means that most of the printing equipment, made for printing t-shirts, can only print 18″ wide at most. If you try to print 18″ on a 22″ x 22″ bandana, you’re going to end up with a bad looking wide gapped bandana. This is not your classic looking bandana. Also, t-shirt inks are mostly plastic based. You don’t want to have a scratchy, un-square, imported bandana with plastic ink on it.
